The New York Giants have struggled in recent seasons with injuries along their defensive line, often lacking the depth needed to adapt when a key starter went down. This ongoing issue weakened their defensive front and left the team scrambling for solutions.
Heading into the 2025 season, the Giants appear to have addressed that problem. They made a major move by selecting Abdul Carter with the third overall pick in the draft, bolstering their defensive line with top-tier talent. Additionally, they improved their depth by signing former Dallas Cowboys edge rusher Chauncey Golston in free agency, a move that brings both experience and upside to the position.
Golston’s arrival strengthens the EDGE rotation significantly. The 27-year-old agreed to a three-year, $18 million deal after posting career highs in nearly every defensive category last season—including 5.5 sacks, 56 tackles, and five passes defended in 13 starts. With the departure of Azeez Ojulari in free agency, Golston is expected to help offset that loss and contribute as a steady, reliable presence.
His addition also gives the Giants crucial insurance. Both Kayvon Thibodeaux and Brian Burns dealt with injuries last year, and even rookie Abdul Carter missed time in college. Having a durable veteran like Golston, who has played 15 or more games every year of his career, gives the Giants much-needed stability. It’s a smart, under-the-radar signing that could pay big dividends if the injury bug strikes again.
