Giants Land Potential Steal in Marcus Mbow During Fifth Round of NFL Draft
The New York Giants may have pulled off one of the biggest steals of the 2025 NFL Draft by snagging former Purdue offensive lineman Marcus Mbow with the 154th overall pick. Projected by many as a top-100 talent, Mbow slipped to Day 3—giving the Giants tremendous value in the fifth round.
Versatility Could Fast-Track Mbow’s NFL Debut
Mbow enters a crowded and competitive offensive line unit, but he brings a standout trait that could quickly elevate him: versatility.
Though he mostly played tackle in college, Mbow was regarded as one of the top guard prospects in this year’s class. His 6-foot-2 frame and 32-inch arms better suit him for the interior at the NFL level, but his ability to move between positions makes him a valuable chess piece on the Giants’ offensive line.
General manager Joe Schoen emphasized Mbow’s position flexibility after the draft:
“Really athletic player, has some position flexibility from tackle to guard. We think he can play both,” Schoen said.
Mbow echoed that confidence, telling reporters he’s been preparing to play across the line:
“I feel like I’ll be able to succeed at all five positions,” he said. “Been working them all, and they all feel pretty good.”
Opportunity Could Come Early for Mbow
The Giants are particularly thin on the right side of the offensive line, where Mbow’s skill set could earn him reps sooner rather than later. Veteran Jermaine Eluemunor is slated to start at right tackle, while the right guard spot is up for grabs. Greg Van Roten started every game at guard last season but now faces competition from Evan Neal, who is shifting from tackle to guard.
Marcus Mbow
With Mbow expected to cross-train at both right tackle and guard, he’ll be firmly in the mix. An injury—or even subpar performance from one of the starters—could open the door for Mbow to crack the starting lineup during his rookie year.
Whether as a backup or potential starter, Marcus Mbow’s versatility and upside make him a player to watch in New York’s 2025 offensive line rotation.
