Breaking-News: Major Setback As Orioles Lose Most Decorated Player To AL East Rival In Blockbuster $82million Deal.

Anthony Santander set a career high with 44 home runs in his final season before free agency. As 2025 begins, he’s still awaiting news on his next destination.

Having spent his entire career with the Baltimore Orioles, including eight seasons in the majors, Santander is now a sought-after free agent. According to Hector Gomez’s report, six teams, including the Orioles, have expressed interest in the Venezuelan outfielder.

However, Toronto currently holds the lead, with the Blue Jays offering Santander a four-year, $82 million deal. Other teams, such as the Angels, Tigers, Astros, Mets, and Orioles, have also shown interest. The Orioles’ offseason moves so far include the signing of slugger Tyler O’Neill, who agreed to a three-year, $49.5 million deal.

O’Neill hit 31 home runs and drove in 61 RBIs for the Boston Red Sox in 2024. Additionally, Baltimore has added pitcher Tomoyuki Sugano and catcher Gary Sanchez, but retaining Santander may require them to increase their offer to match Toronto’s.

The Blue Jays have been active in the market but missed out on outfielders Juan Soto and Teoscar Hernández, who signed with the Mets and Dodgers, respectively.

After a disappointing 74-88 season, Toronto is focused on making a push in 2025 before potentially losing stars Vladimir Guerrero Jr. and Bo Bichette to free agency next year.

Adding Santander would help address their offensive struggles, especially in the outfield, where several players, including Davis Schneider, Daulton Varsho, and George Springer, struggled last season.

Signing Santander would also boost Toronto’s power potential and give them a strong hitter to complement Guerrero while weakening a division rival, the Orioles. Santander, now 30, has totaled 155 home runs and 435 RBIs over his eight seasons with the Orioles.
