The New York Giants had a strong presence at Super Bowl 59, with several former players making media appearances at Radio Row. Eli Manning participated in the Kick of Destiny on Super Bowl Sunday, while Michael Strahan maintained his usual role as part of Fox’s coverage, sharing the spotlight with other NFL legends. Also in New Orleans for the Big Game was President Donald Trump, making history as the first sitting president to attend a Super Bowl—a move that inevitably stirred controversy.
However, Giants icon Michael Strahan defended Trump’s appearance, saying, “Nah, nah. Come on. It’s the biggest sporting event in the world. It’s not going to overshadow the game. If he jumps out on the field and streaks, or he decides to put on some pads, then it might overshadow the game,” Strahan remarked, according to Irish Star. “But no, this is about Sunday and the NFL. The people have waited all year for this. It’s the biggest event of the year, and there’s a reason people travel from all over to attend with all the media attention, so no.” Strahan offered a measured response, but Trump’s presence certainly made headlines.
Before the game, both teams were asked about Trump’s attendance. While the Philadelphia Eagles mostly avoided comment, the Kansas City Chiefs had a more positive reception. Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce described Trump’s presence as an “honor” and called the experience “cool.

While it wasn’t a full endorsement, their reactions sparked a flurry of social media activity—especially after Trump posted an attack on Kelce’s girlfriend, Taylor Swift. “The only one that had a tougher night than the Kansas City Chiefs was Taylor Swift,” Trump wrote on Truth Social. “She got BOOED out of the stadium. MAGA is very unforgiving!”
The Chiefs lost to the Eagles 40-22, ending their hopes of a three-peat. While Trump appeared to support Kansas City, he quickly turned the focus to politics when the Eagles were crowned Super Bowl champions.
Despite the drama, Strahan’s take on the situation remained grounded. He pointed out that Trump’s presence was barely mentioned on the broadcast, and it’s not uncommon for political figures to attend major sporting events—though Trump was the first sitting president at the Super Bowl. He’ll likely have another opportunity to make an appearance at next year’s game in Santa Clara at Levi’s Stadium.
