Breaking-News; Unexpected Outcome As Braves Dump All-Star… Rockies Strike Gold? Ronald Acuña Jr.’s “Revenge” Backfires in Shocking Loss

The Braves designated infielder Orlando Arcia for assignment just weeks ago. Although he has underperformed this season, it’s worth noting that Arcia was an All-Star as recently as 2023. The Rockies didn’t hesitate to claim him—a smart move, considering their bleak outlook and need for any trade-worthy talent. If Arcia can turn things around before the trade deadline, he could become a key bargaining chip. Colorado has delayed a rebuild for years, but a veteran middle infielder with postseason experience could bring back value.

On Sunday, the Braves faced the Rockies. Despite being heavy favorites, Atlanta faltered late, allowing Colorado—who entered the matchup with a dismal 13-57 record—to pull off a surprising win. For a team like the Braves, who couldn’t afford such a slip, it was a missed opportunity and emblematic of broader struggles. Atlanta should’ve completed a sweep, but their failure reflects a season that has been underwhelming.

Adding a touch of humor to the reunion, Ronald Acuña Jr. playfully hit his former teammate Arcia in a sensitive spot—a friendly jab between friends, though it probably didn’t feel too friendly. Ironically, Acuña’s “revenge” backfired on the Braves.

Since returning from the injured list, both Acuña Jr. and ace Spencer Strider have played at a high level. Still, the team hasn’t lived up to expectations. They remain far behind the NL East-leading Mets and haven’t bounced back from their 0-7 start. Cutting ties with Arcia didn’t exactly spark a clubhouse turnaround.

Manager Brian Snitker usually knows how to connect with his players, but his influence may be waning. With his contract set to expire after this season, the Braves could opt for a younger, new voice in the dugout. Snitker deserves credit for guiding Atlanta to a 2021 World Series title, but so far in 2025, he hasn’t found answers.

On Sunday, both Arcia and Acuña Jr. contributed similarly on the stat sheet—each recording a hit and a run. For the Rockies, that exchange is more than acceptable.
