Breaking-News: Unexpected Outcome As Matt Olson Snubbed As All-Star Finalist Despite Anchoring Braves on Both Sides of the Ball

Despite Recent Surge, Braves’ Matt Olson Left Off All-Star Finalist List

One of baseball’s most dynamic two-way players has been left off the list of MLB All-Star finalists—and it’s turning heads. Atlanta Braves first baseman Matt Olson was surprisingly snubbed when MLB unveiled its finalists Thursday night, despite his recent hot streak at the plate and continued excellence in the field.

Olson had a slow start to the 2024 season, with some struggles attributed to a bit of bad luck. By May 15, he was batting just .215 with a .720 OPS, and as of May 27, he had only managed 10 hits in 50 at-bats with runners in scoring position. But as June wraps up, Olson has flipped the script, proving again why he’s considered one of the most well-rounded first basemen in the game.

Now, he’s back on track for another monster season—potentially his fourth campaign with at least 30 home runs and 100 RBIs since 2021. His manager, Brian Snitker, has taken notice, as Olson continues to be a force in the Braves’ lineup.

Statistically, Olson stands out among his peers. He leads all National League first basemen in runs scored (46) and walks (50), ranks second in home runs (15), third in doubles (20), and holds a league-best 3.3 WAR at his position.

Defensively, he’s been elite from Day 1. Olson leads all major league first basemen in defensive WAR (0.9), owns a .997 fielding percentage (second among NL first basemen), and has 12 defensive runs saved—tops at his position and third-best in the entire league.

His Braves teammates recognize what he brings to the team. Just last season, Olson shattered franchise records with 54 home runs and 139 RBIs, slashing .283/.389/.604. While this year’s numbers started off slower, his resurgence has showcased the veteran leadership and all-around impact Atlanta has come to rely on—regardless of how All-Star voters see it.
