Minnesota Vikings superstar wide receiver Justin Jefferson is fired up about the possibility of representing Team USA in the 2028 Olympics, set to be held in Los Angeles. As flag football makes its Olympic debut, Jefferson shared his thoughts on NFL players potentially dominating the roster — and he didn’t hold back when addressing the heated debate.
Speaking with NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero on May 20, Jefferson acknowledged the talent of pro flag football players, noting that they deserve credit for their deep understanding of the game. “Those guys play flag football every day. They know the rules, the nuances — all of it,” Jefferson said. “It’s not as simple as just plugging in NFL players. There are going to be a lot of positions and only so many spots. Not everyone’s going to make it.”
Jefferson also addressed the bold claim made by Team USA quarterback Darrell Doucette, who previously said he was “better” than Kansas City Chiefs legend Patrick Mahomes. Jefferson wasn’t having it. “It’s going to be tough to beat out Patrick Mahomes for that starting quarterback spot,” he said. “Good luck — that one’s going to be tough for sure.”
Patrick Mahomes
Doucette, who played wide receiver during the 2025 Pro Bowl celebrity flag football game, stirred controversy last year when he told TMZ, “I feel like I’m better than Patrick Mahomes because of my IQ of the game… I know he’s more accurate, I know he’s the best in the league, but when it comes to flag football, I feel like I know more.”
Mahomes replied with a meme, playfully questioning why he was even part of the conversation. But what once felt like fantasy is quickly turning into a real possibility as Olympic rosters begin to take shape. Whether stars like Mahomes — who’ll be 32 in 2028 — choose to participate remains to be seen. As for Jefferson, time will tell if he ultimately suits up in red, white, and blue on the world stage.
