Justin Jefferson Reacts to Shedeur Sanders’ Draft Slide: “He Should’ve Gone Way Earlier”
Cleveland Browns rookie quarterback Shedeur Sanders was one of the most talked-about prospects heading into the 2025 NFL Draft — and not always for the right reasons. Now, after unexpectedly falling to the fifth round, the debate around him is louder than ever.
Minnesota Vikings star wide receiver Justin Jefferson weighed in on Sanders’ draft tumble during a Bleacher Report interview on May 3, and he didn’t hold back.
“It’s crazy he dropped that far,” Jefferson said. “From what I’ve seen at Colorado, he had no business slipping past the first or second round. But hey, now he’s got something to prove — more fuel for the fire.”
Sanders Faces Uphill Battle in Cleveland — But That Might Be a Good Thing
Sanders joins a crowded Browns quarterback room and will need to fight for a roster spot. Still, the team clearly sees potential — they traded up to grab him at No. 144 overall and will owe him less than $5 million over four years, making him a low-risk, high-upside project.
While there’s a path for Sanders to potentially earn the starting job as a rookie, the Browns’ current offensive setup might not help him shine right away. Unlike Minnesota, Cleveland lacks a superstar receiver like Jefferson. Jerry Jeudy, the team’s top wideout, had his best year in 2024 with 90 catches for 1,229 yards and four touchdowns, but he’s not yet considered elite. Tight end David Njoku made the Pro Bowl in 2023 but dealt with injuries last season, appearing in just 11 games.
In the end, a slow start might be exactly what Sanders needs — time to develop, a chip on his shoulder, and a shot to prove the doubters wrong.
