St. Louis Cardinals infielder Nolan Arenado has been at the center of trade rumors for months, but his hefty contract and no-trade clause have made it difficult for the team to move him. Despite these obstacles, his strong start to the 2025 season could push the Cardinals to explore trade options more aggressively.
According to Tim Kelly of Bleacher Report, Arenado might be willing to waive his no-trade clause—specifically for a deal to the New York Yankees. “Arenado still has two years left on the eight-year, $260 million contract he originally signed with the Colorado Rockies,” Kelly noted. “While he carries a $25.55 million luxury-tax hit in 2026 and 2027, his actual salary for those years is a relatively manageable $31 million during his age-35 and -36 seasons.”

Kelly also pointed out that the Yankees could benefit greatly from Arenado, especially considering the underwhelming production from Oswaldo Cabrera at third base. A trade would also reunite Arenado with former Cardinals teammate Paul Goldschmidt, giving the Yankees a serious boost as they aim for another deep postseason run.
The Yankees are considered one of the most aggressive contenders in the league when it comes to upgrading their roster. If Arenado is open to waiving his no-trade clause for New York, a deal could come together quickly.
