Breaking-News: Yankees Stay Hot with 5th Straight Win As Goldschmidt Shines, Rodón Dominates, and a Wild Defensive Robbery Seals Yankees’ Thrilling 1-0 Win Over Rays!

Paul Goldschmidt collected three of New York’s five hits and scored the game’s only run on an RBI single by Trent Grisham, as Carlos Rodón held Tampa Bay to just two hits over six innings in the Yankees’ 1-0 win Friday night at Steinbrenner Field — their fifth consecutive victory.

Grisham’s broken-bat blooper in the second inning brought Goldschmidt home from second with two outs. Goldschmidt also contributed with three key defensive plays at first base.

Rodón (2-0) ended his personal three-game skid, delivering a season-high nine strikeouts. Three relievers followed to complete the shutout, with Luke Weaver pitching a perfect ninth for his second save. The win marked the Yankees’ first 1-0 victory since June 24, 2003, versus the Rangers.

The Rays had two costly baserunning mistakes that kept them off the scoreboard. In the fifth, Jose Caballero led off with a double and reached third on a groundout, but was caught in a rundown by the infield. In the seventh, Jonathan Aranda hit a ball off the center field wall but was thrown out trying to stretch it into a triple.

Caballero later redeemed himself by making a highlight-reel play in the eighth, leaping over the right-field wall to rob Ben Rice of a two-run homer.

Tampa Bay pitchers retired 13 straight Yankees before Oswaldo Cabrera broke the streak with a leadoff single in the seventh.
