Veteran running back La’Mical Perine has had a tumultuous few months in the league after being released by the Kansas City Chiefs in May. He initially joined the Chiefs’ practice squad in January 2023 after being let go by the Miami Dolphins.
During his time with the Chiefs last season, the former New York Jets player participated in three games, recording 77 rushing yards on 22 attempts, along with three receptions for 33 yards on five targets.
After leaving Kansas City, Perine was signed by the Pittsburgh Steelers, but they released him before the 53-man roster deadline in August. The 26-year-old didn’t remain a free agent for long, as the Green Bay Packers added him to their practice squad shortly after. However, the Packers released him on September 10, and he was re-signed by the Steelers at the start of October.
Unfortunately, following recent roster changes, Perine’s contract with the Steelers’ practice squad has been terminated, and he did not see any playing time during his second stint with the team. His NFL journey has been challenging, marked by multiple team changes since being drafted in the fourth round of the 2020 NFL Draft. It seems unlikely that he will return to the Chiefs anytime soon, as their practice squad is currently full with two other running backs, Emani Bailey and Keaontay Ingram.
