BREAKING: Notre Dame’s Newest Star? 4-Star DB Stuns Scouts with ‘Incredible Instincts’ Against Top Talent

Notre Dame’s Latest 4-Star DB Commit Ayden Pouncey Already Turning Heads

When the Notre Dame football program secured a commitment from 4-star defensive back Ayden Pouncey, the buzz was immediate — and loud. Many praised head coach Marcus Freeman for his recent recruiting success, and Pouncey’s pledge came on the same day five Irish players were selected in the NFL Draft, adding to the momentum.

Though the Irish have landed several high-profile recruits lately, Pouncey may be the one drawing the most praise right out of the gate.

One of his biggest supporters is Brett Goetz, founder of the elite South Florida Express 7-on-7 program, who recently spoke with Irish Sports Daily. Goetz didn’t hold back in his praise of the talented DB, emphasizing Pouncey’s natural feel for the game.

He’s got incredible instincts,” Goetz said. “He’s long, rangy, and has a true love for the game. He’s a fierce competitor.”

Sound familiar? Goetz compared Pouncey’s play style to that of former Notre Dame star Xavier Watts, highlighting his ability to anticipate plays and execute at a high level.

“He’s always in the right spot,” Goetz added. “He understands schemes, reads the field well, and makes big plays. Over the past three years in 7-on-7 competition, he’s constantly come up with key interceptions. In last year’s national championship, he picked off Deuce Knight twice and basically won us the game.”

And yes — that Deuce Knight, the former Notre Dame QB commit now headed to Auburn. With both players poised to meet again at the college level, a future showdown between the two could be a thrilling playoff clash to watch.
