Green Bay Packers general manager Brian Gutekunst knows the team has work to do this offseason. While the Packers were competitive in 2024, they fell short of being true Super Bowl contenders. With a strong offseason, however, they could significantly boost their chances of becoming an elite team. So, where do the Packers need to improve the most? According to ESPN’s Rob Demovsky, the team has identified three key areas: cornerback, defensive line, and wide receiver.
Demovsky revealed that an NFL agent informed him the Packers plan to be very active in free agency, targeting upgrades at these positions. This news comes amid reports of Green Bay’s interest in star wide receiver DK Metcalf, with trade discussions rumored to involve the Seattle Seahawks. While the accuracy of these reports remains unclear, other names like Davante Adams have also been floated as potential targets.
Cornerback is another critical need, especially with reports that the Packers are exploring trades for Jaire Alexander. If Alexander is moved, Green Bay will need a replacement, and New York Jets free agent D.J. Reed has emerged as a potential option. Reed, who recorded 64 tackles and 11 passes defended in 2024, could provide the stability and coverage skills the Packers need.
The defensive line is also a priority, whether through adding a run-stuffing tackle or a pass-rushing specialist. Both areas could use reinforcement to elevate the defense to championship caliber.
With Gutekunst at the helm, the Packers have the opportunity to make bold moves this offseason. The team isn’t far from contention, and aggressive upgrades could position them as serious Super Bowl threats in 2025. It’s time for Green Bay to go all-in and build the most talented roster possible.
