BREAKING; Red Sox Unleash Secret Double Play Trick That’s Turning Heads—You Won’t Believe the Results!

BOSTON — After leading the American League in errors the past two seasons, the Red Sox are showing signs of defensive improvement in 2025—especially when it comes to turning double plays.

Stability up the middle has been key, with Trevor Story and Kristian Campbell now locked in at shortstop and second base. Manager Alex Cora made it a priority to improve efficiency with double plays, and the results are already showing: Boston currently leads the league in turning them. They executed three double plays during Sean Newcomb’s start in Baltimore on Monday and ended Friday’s home opener with a smooth 5-4-3 play to beat the Cardinals.

“You guys know how I feel about double plays,” Cora said. “They’re game-changers. They flip momentum.”

Cora credited Campbell’s rapid development, particularly his footwork and hand speed at second base. He noted that the infield feels more settled this year compared to last season’s rotating cast of players. Trevor Story echoed that sentiment, saying their chemistry has clicked and Campbell has made big strides defensively since spring training.

Although the Red Sox committed three errors on Friday, overall consistency and defensive execution are trending in a better direction this season—something that could be key to their success moving forward.
