The Kansas City Royals have made some key roster decisions recently, including the assignment of top prospect Jac Caglianone to Double-A despite his impressive performance in spring training. The slugger turned heads in Cactus League play, smashing three home runs and posting a staggering 1.871 OPS in just 17 at-bats, showcasing his immense power and giving the Royals a tantalizing glimpse of what’s to come.
According to Anne Rogers of MLB.com, the Royals have a clear development plan for Caglianone as he heads to Double-A. “In Double-A, Caglianone will continue to play first base, as he still needs to show improvement there. But once he reaches Triple-A, he’ll likely start getting reps in the outfield,” Rogers reported.
For now, Caglianone will primarily focus on first base, but the Royals are expected to gradually introduce him to outfield duties as he progresses through their system. While it might make sense to give him some outfield experience before he reaches Triple-A, the Royals seem confident in their approach.
The organization doesn’t anticipate Caglianone staying in Double-A for long, and his eventual promotion to Triple-A will provide him with more opportunities to showcase his versatility and talent. The Royals’ plan reflects their belief in his potential, and it’s clear they’re preparing for him to make an impact at the major-league level in the near future.
