Outfielder Teoscar Hernández played a key role in the Los Angeles Dodgers’ victory over the New York Yankees in the 2024 World Series. Now a free agent, the right-handed power hitter may be looking to leave Hollywood for a big payday in the Bronx.
Although Hernández received multi-year offers last winter, he chose to sign a one-year, $23.5 million deal with the Dodgers, a move that paid off spectacularly.
The 32-year-old finished the season with a .272/.339/.501 slash line, 33 home runs, 32 doubles, 99 RBIs, and 84 runs scored in 652 plate appearances. His strong performance earned him a second All-Star Game selection, a third Silver Slugger Award, and a 19th-place finish in the NL MVP voting.
As a free agent, Hernández is expected to sign quickly, with the Dodgers still seen as frontrunners to keep him. However, with his availability on the open market, the situation could change. New York is reportedly considering Hernández as a backup option if they miss out on Juan Soto.
JustBaseball’s Ryan Finkelstein predicts that Hernández could land a five-year, $85 million deal with the Yankees. Since 2019, Hernández has been one of the few players to hit over 25 home runs in every full season, totaling 158 homers, which ranks 15th in MLB during that period.
Finkelstein notes that while many teams will be interested in adding his power to their lineup, the determining factor in his next deal may come down to which team offers the most years. According to Spotrac, the Yankees’ potential offer of $85 million over five years is slightly above his estimated market value of $71 million for three years, but a bidding war could push the price higher. Now, all eyes are on where Hernández will land next.
