BREAKING: Skip Schumaker Takes the Helm: Rangers Name Former Marlins Manager as Bochy’s Successor

The Rangers announced Friday night that Skip Schumaker will replace Bruce Bochy as manager, just three days after Bochy’s departure was made official.

The latest:

Schumaker, 45, has signed a four-year deal to manage the Rangers from 2026 through 2029, becoming the 21st full-time manager in franchise history. He joined the organization in November 2024 as Senior Advisor for Baseball Operations after managing the Miami Marlins for two seasons, where he earned the 2023 Manager of the Year Award.

A former major leaguer with an 11-year playing career, Schumaker never faced the Rangers in a regular-season game. He and his wife, Lindsey, have two children—son Brody and daughter Presley—and make their home in California during the offseason.

What they’re saying:

“We’re thrilled to have Skip leading this club,” said Rangers President of Baseball Operations Chris Young. “He’s proven to be passionate, meticulous, and energetic—qualities that make him an ideal fit for our organization. We’re fortunate to have someone so highly respected in the industry take on this role.”

Young also noted that the team has enjoyed getting to know Schumaker and his family and looks forward to welcoming them to the Dallas–Fort Worth area.

“I’m honored and excited for this opportunity,” Schumaker said. “After spending the past year learning about the organization, my conversations with Chris Young and others have only deepened my enthusiasm. I can’t wait to get started preparing for 2026.”

What’s next:

The Rangers will announce details for Schumaker’s introductory press conference in the coming days.

Background on Bochy:

Bochy, 70, managed the Rangers for three seasons, posting a 249–237 record (.512) and leading the 2023 team to its first-ever World Series championship. His 249 wins rank sixth in club history, and his 13 postseason victories trail only Ron Washington’s 18. Bochy was the first Rangers manager to have previously won a World Series and was under contract through 2025.
