A former Texas Longhorns football standout is facing legal issues. Xavier Worthy, an ex-All-Big 12 wide receiver who recently wrapped up his rookie season with the Kansas City Chiefs, was arrested on Friday in Williamson County. Jail records show he has been charged with “Assault Fam/House Mem Impede Breath/Circulat,” a third-degree felony in Texas. This charge essentially accuses Worthy of assaulting a family member by restricting their breathing or circulation.
The Williamson County Sheriff’s Office carried out an arrest warrant for Worthy on Friday, and as of Saturday morning, he remains in custody at the Williamson County Jail. Records indicate he has not yet posted bond. The arrest could also lead to a suspension under the NFL’s Personal Conduct Policy.
On Saturday morning, Worthy’s attorneys, Sam Bassett and Chip Lewis, issued a statement addressing the situation. They said, “We are aware of the allegation that led to Mr. Worthy’s arrest. We are working with law enforcement in Williamson County to ensure they have the benefit of the totality of circumstances that led to this allegation. The complainant was recently asked to vacate Mr. Worthy’s residence upon discovery of her infidelity. She has refused to do so and made a number of extortive efforts prior to resorting to this baseless allegation against Mr. Worthy. We will continue to cooperate with the Williamson County authorities as we have full faith that their thorough investigation will support Mr. Worthy’s innocence.”
