Dan Hurley had high hopes that Jayden Ross would play a key role in UConn’s rotation this past season. The head coach even seemed to speak it into existence at times, praising Ross’s energy and potential in early practices. But the sophomore never quite lived up to those expectations on the court. Still, Ross is gearing up for another shot.
On Tuesday night, Ross announced via Instagram that he’ll return to UConn for his junior season, writing, “Home is where the heart is… can’t wait for year 3 in Storrs.”
Among the replies was a comment from Solo Ball, who said, “Just the news I was waiting for.” Ball and Ross have a long history together, having played two years as high school teammates at St. James School in Maryland, and spent a summer together on the Team Melo AAU squad.
Early last season, Hurley had described Ross as a “rocket ship” in practice — knocking down threes, crashing the glass, and making a strong case for minutes in a versatile lineup that occasionally featured no true point guard.
