Minnesota Vikings left tackle Cam Robinson played a crucial role in saving the team’s season, but he is likely headed elsewhere next year. Robinson joined the Vikings via a trade for a conditional fifth-round pick at the NFL trade deadline after starting left tackle Christian Darrisaw went down with a season-ending knee injury in Week 8.
The Vikings were struggling after a tough stretch, losing back-to-back games to the Detroit Lions and Los Angeles Rams following their Week 6 bye, but Robinson’s addition helped stabilize the line and keep their season alive. However, Robinson is now set to cash in on a big contract elsewhere.
According to ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler, Robinson is a player to watch in free agency, with the Kansas City Chiefs and Los Angeles Rams among the teams potentially interested. Fowler noted that Robinson may have played his way into a contract worth over $20 million per year.

The Vikings, while still hoping to retain him, face a dilemma. Given that they just signed Darrisaw to a four-year, $104 million extension in July, paying Robinson could be a tough decision. Darrisaw, though, is recovering from a torn ACL and MCL and may not be ready for Week 1, making Robinson’s future with the team uncertain.
The potential departure of Robinson to Super Bowl contenders would be a tough pill for the Vikings to swallow, as they may be forced to let him go due to financial constraints. Even though Robinson helped the team in a time of need, the Vikings have a sizable investment in Darrisaw, who they expect to return to full health eventually.
