The Minnesota Vikings have seen strong production from their passing game following the 2024 addition of quarterback Sam Darnold. Despite ranking 25th in passing attempts, they sit 13th in passing yards through the first 11 weeks of the season.
Darnold has proven to be a valuable asset to the offense, contributing to the team’s success in the air. However, the Vikings’ ground game has not been as effective, failing to match the production of their passing attack.
In light of this, Bleacher Report’s Kristopher Knox suggests that the Vikings could benefit from acquiring Denver Broncos running back Javonte Williams to bolster their rushing offense. Knox points out that Williams, a second-round pick in 2021, showed immense potential as a rookie, racking up 1,219 scrimmage yards and seven touchdowns despite making only one start.
However, his promising career was derailed by a significant knee injury in his second season, suffering tears to his ACL, LCL, and PCL. Since then, Williams has struggled to regain his prior form and prominence.
Knox believes that Minnesota would be an ideal destination for Williams, given head coach Kevin O’Connell’s approach to using running backs as versatile threats in both the running and passing games. This type of role suits Williams well, as he has the skill set to excel in both aspects of the game.
Adding Williams to the Vikings’ backfield could give the team a much-needed boost and help improve their ground game, complementing their solid passing attack.
