LSU, one of just two SEC teams left out of this year’s NCAA Tournament, has already started reloading for next season. The Tigers landed a commitment from Portland transfer Max Mackinnon, his agent Daniel Moldovan confirmed to ESPN Thursday night.
Mackinnon, a 6-foot-6 wing from Australia, averaged 14.5 points while shooting an impressive 41% from beyond the arc for Portland this past season. He also posted 4.8 rebounds, 3.2 assists, and shot 88.7% from the free throw line. Originally starting his college career at Elon, Mackinnon spent two seasons there before transferring to Portland for the 2024-25 season.
He has ties to LSU through associate head coach David Patrick, a fellow Australian. A highly sought-after mid-major transfer, Mackinnon chose the Tigers over several other programs.
LSU, which went 14-18 overall and 3-15 in SEC play last season, now has four transfer additions lined up for next year as it looks to bounce back.
