As Spring Training approaches, the MLB offseason has been relatively quiet—but Wednesday turned out to be a significant day for New York Yankees superstar Aaron Judge. The outfielder took to social media to share some exciting personal news: the birth of his first child.

Judge has had a monumental few months, both on and off the field. On the diamond, he led the Yankees to the World Series, where they fell to the Los Angeles Dodgers in five games. Off the field, his wife, Samantha, was expecting their first child, and Judge revealed that she gave birth on January 27.

“1/27/25 Nora Rose Judge. What an incredible week it’s been, can’t wait for the memories the three of us make,” Judge posted on Instagram. The Yankees and their fans are undoubtedly overjoyed for the Judge family.

However, the Yankees’ front office remains focused on building the roster. Shortly after Judge’s announcement, the team revealed they had claimed infielder Braden Shewmake off waivers from the Kansas City Royals.

“Earlier today, the Yankees claimed INF Braden Shewmake off waivers from the Kansas City Royals,” the team announced on X (formerly Twitter).

Shewmake, who made his MLB debut with the Atlanta Braves in 2023, played 29 games with the Chicago White Sox in 2024. While his stats were modest (.125 batting average, one home run, and four RBIs), his versatility in the infield and speed on the bases could make him a valuable utility player for the Yankees.

After being designated for assignment by the White Sox on New Year’s Day, Shewmake was claimed by the Royals on January 8. His time in Kansas City was short-lived, as he was designated for assignment again on January 31 before landing with the Yankees.

As the Yankees prepare for the upcoming season, Shewmake’s ability to play multiple positions could provide depth off the bench—if he can secure a spot on the roster. Meanwhile, Judge’s growing family and leadership on the field continue to inspire the team and its fans.
