The NHL on TNT has officially revealed the nominees for the 2024-25 Mr. TNT Award, and Boston Bruins stars Brad Marchand and David Pastrnak are among the contenders. They join Tampa Bay Lightning coach Jon Cooper, Washington Capitals forward Alex Ovechkin, Dallas Stars forward Matt Duchene, and Florida Panthers forward Matthew Tkachuk in the running for the award, which honors players and figures who are both invaluable to their team and a highlight of the TNT broadcast.
Marchand, who won the inaugural award in the 2022-23 season, could reclaim the title this year, especially after his on-air feud with NHL analyst Paul Bissonnette. In December, Bissonnette humorously “suspended” Marchand from the award for a year, but it seems he’s had a change of heart. Meanwhile, Pastrnak has also caught Bissonnette’s attention, with the analyst joking, “Well, he ain’t getting my vote,” after host Liam McHugh pointed out Pastrnak’s on-air remarks.
The Bruins have two more regular-season games airing on TNT—March 2 against the Minnesota Wild and April 13 versus the Pittsburgh Penguins. The Wild game will also be broadcast locally on NESN. The Mr. TNT Award winner will be determined by votes from the NHL on TNT crew, including Bissonnette, McHugh, Anson Carter, Henrik Lundqvist, and Wayne Gretzky. The announcement is expected during TNT’s regular-season finale doubleheader on April 16.
