Former Giants Star Tight End Tragically Passes Away at 70 — NFL World Reacts

Super Bowl champion tight end Don Hasselbeck, father of former NFL quarterbacks Matt and Tim Hasselbeck, has passed away at the age of 70 following cardiac arrest. Matt shared the news on social media, honoring his father not just for his football accomplishments but for the role he played as a leader within their family.

A standout at Colorado and second-round pick by the New England Patriots in 1977, Don spent seven seasons in New England before joining the Los Angeles Raiders, where he won a Super Bowl in 1983 and made a key special teams play in the championship game. He later played for the Vikings and wrapped up his career with the Giants in 1985, appearing in seven games and recording a touchdown.

Over his nine-year NFL career, Hasselbeck tallied 107 receptions for 1,542 yards and 18 touchdowns across 123 games.

His legacy extended beyond the field, as both of his sons followed in his footsteps: Matt, a three-time Pro Bowler and Super Bowl starter for the Seahawks, and Tim, who also spent time with several NFL teams, including the Giants.
