BREAKINGNEWS: “Gamecocks Make Major Move: Super Bowl Champion Joins Coaching Staff – What It Means for the Team’s Future!”

JACKSONVILLE—Jax State Head Football Coach Charles Kelly has hired Eric Davis as the program’s new Director of Player Development.

In this role, Davis will assist in the growth of each player in the program in every facet, including academically, socially, and athletically.

Davis is a member of the Jacksonville State Hall of Fame after leading the Gamecocks to the 1989 NCAA Division II Championship game and a 13-1 record. The Anniston native earned First-Team All-Gulf South honors and was named to the league’s All-Decade Team for the 1980’s.

“I think it’s important for our players to have access to a player that has been here and had success at the highest level,” said Kelly. “Eric is a professional on and off the field and I’m excited to see our players benefit from his counsel.”

He was taken in the second round of the 1990 NFL Draft by the San Francisco 49ers and was a two-time All-Pro selection, and two-time Pro Bowler. Davis started at cornerback in Super Bowl XXIX and recorded a second quarter interception to help the 49ers defeat the San Diego Chargers.

“I’m thrilled to rejoin the program and work with these talented young men,” said Davis. “Our goal is to support them in every way, helping them define their identity, pursue their dreams, and achieve success on and off the field.”

During his 13-year NFL career, Davis had 38 interceptions and returned four for touchdowns. Davis is also a member of the Division II College Hall of Fame and the Alabama Sports Hall of Fame.
