HOT-NEWS; Extension Talks Heating Up: Vikings owner Mark Wilf Express Total Optimism Towards Retaining Kwesi Adofo-Mensah As GM After Impressive Regular-Season Record

Is a contract extension for Minnesota Vikings general manager Kwesi Adofo-Mensah imminent? According to owner Mark Wilf, who is attending the Annual League Meetings in Palm Beach, Florida, the team is actively working toward finalizing a deal.

Wilf shared that the Vikings have had “very, very optimistic conversations” with Adofo-Mensah, as reported by reporters at the meeting. When asked if securing an extension for Adofo-Mensah was a priority, Wilf confirmed, “Yes it is.”

Currently in the final season of his contract, Adofo-Mensah was hired by the Vikings shortly before head coach Kevin O’Connell, who, after being named the 2024 NFL Coach of the Year, received a contract extension two months ago that keeps him with the team through the 2029 season.

When asked about his contract situation last week, Adofo-Mensah downplayed the matter, saying, “I don’t think about that very much, I’ll be honest.” He explained that the current time of year is particularly busy for him and his staff, adding, “I wake up every morning trying to make sure the Vikings get to the ultimate goal I want to get us to.

Just like we say with player contracts, it’s a process. These things take time.” Adofo-Mensah focused on team improvement, divisional rivalries, and playoff aspirations, stating that his attention is fully on how to improve the team, not his contract.

Since joining the Vikings, Adofo-Mensah has overseen a team that has posted a 34-17 regular-season record, but has struggled in the playoffs, with an 0-2 postseason record. He has been praised for his successful free-agent acquisitions, though his draft picks have been more scrutinized. The success of 2024 first-round picks J.J. McCarthy and Dallas Turner could ultimately play a role in assessing his overall drafting success.
