The Montreal Canadiens announced on Monday that they’ve made a forward swap, sending Owen Beck down to the AHL’s Laval Rocket and recalling Joshua Roy. This recall of Roy is considered an emergency move, meaning it doesn’t count toward the team’s limit of four recalls.
Beck has appeared in 12 NHL games this season, recording one assist. He will head back to the Rocket, where he is expected to play a key role for the team currently sitting in first place.
This marks Roy’s second recall to the NHL this season. He has played in four NHL games so far but hasn’t registered any points. However, Roy has been performing exceptionally well in the AHL, tallying 20 goals and 15 assists in 40 games. Ironically, it was Roy’s injury that paved the way for Beck to replace him at the AHL All-Star Classic.

The 21-year-old Roy is currently riding a three-game goal streak, including scoring the game-winning goal on Saturday against Rochester with just seconds left. He has four goals in his last five games overall.
The Canadiens will have back-to-back games on Tuesday and Wednesday in Vancouver and Seattle, while the Rocket will play Bridgeport Islanders at home on Wednesday.
