The New York Giants continued their offseason program with another OTA session on June 10, and an unexpected connection stole the spotlight.
Team reporter John Schmeelk noted that third-string quarterback Jameis Winston and undrafted rookie wide receiver Beaux Collins were one of the most productive duos on the field.
Winston opened the day with a sidearm throw to Collins on a crossing route, placing the ball perfectly in stride — reminiscent of a shortstop’s flick. The pair followed up with two deep completions: one down the right sideline and another on a flag route, both timed beautifully with Collins catching the ball over his shoulder without needing to adjust his pace.
Collins later hauled in another pass, this time from fourth-string QB Tommy DeVito. Though the throw was under pressure from defender Chauncey Gholston, it added to what’s been a strong showing for the rookie wideout.
Collins Shines Among Deep UDFA WR Class
After not selecting a wide receiver in the 2025 NFL Draft, the Giants added several undrafted free agents at the position. Among them, Beaux Collins — a 6-foot-3 target out of Notre Dame — has quickly become one of the standouts.
Pre-draft scouting from The Athletic’s Dane Brugler described Collins as a smooth, agile athlete who can change speeds mid-route and chase down deep balls. However, his inconsistency and drop issues raised red flags. Over three seasons at Clemson, Collins tallied more than 1,000 receiving yards and 11 touchdowns but also logged 13 drops. In his lone season at Notre Dame, he added 490 yards, 3 TDs, and 7 more drops.
Despite that, Collins’ performance in OTAs is likely earning him a spot in training camp — and possibly more if he continues to build on this momentum.
He isn’t the only undrafted receiver making noise. Antwane “Juice” Wells and Jordan Bly both scored touchdowns from rookie QB Jaxson Dart during the June 9 session. Wells added a deep-ball reception from DeVito on June 10, and Dalen Cambre has made at least one highlight catch in every OTA this week. Still, Collins has been the most reliable and consistent among the group.
Wilson & Hyatt Building a Connection of Their Own
Schmeelk also highlighted a second key pairing: Russell Wilson and second-year wideout Jalin Hyatt. The two connected on multiple big plays, continuing a strong run of chemistry throughout spring practices.
The first came on a classic deep “moon ball” from Wilson, with Hyatt getting behind the cornerback and making an athletic leaping grab down the middle. Later, the duo executed a perfectly timed back-shoulder throw along the sideline — Hyatt turned at the last moment to snatch the ball and tapped both feet in-bounds.
Hyatt is showing signs of a breakout heading into 2025. If he can deliver, the Giants’ receiver group — featuring Hyatt, Malik Nabers, Darius Slayton, and Wan’Dale Robinson — could quickly become a strength, especially with Wilson’s deep-ball accuracy on full display.
