With Liam Coen now on board as head coach, the Jacksonville Jaguars have started assembling his inaugural coaching staff.
As reported by NFL Media’s Tom Pelissero, the Jaguars are interviewing Daronte Jones, the Minnesota Vikings’ defensive pass game coordinator and defensive backs coach, for a role on the staff.
Jones, 46, is currently in his second stint with the Vikings. He initially joined the team as their defensive backs coach in 2020 before leaving to become LSU’s defensive coordinator in 2021. He returned to Minnesota in 2022, resuming his role as defensive backs coach and later taking on the additional title of defensive pass game coordinator when Brian Flores was hired as defensive coordinator in 2023.
Under Jones’ guidance, the Vikings’ defense excelled in 2024, leading the NFL with 24 interceptions. The team also finished the season ranked fifth in points allowed and 16th in total yards allowed.
Throughout his career, Jones has gained experience at both the collegiate and professional levels, including stints with the Miami Dolphins and Cincinnati Bengals in the NFL.
