The Minnesota Vikings are expected to be active and strategic in the 2025 NFL Draft, with plans to trade down and accumulate more picks. Heading into the draft, Minnesota holds just four selections: a first, third, fifth, and sixth-rounder. Much of their draft capital was spent last year in deals to move up and select quarterback J.J. McCarthy and linebacker Dallas Turner.
With the 24th overall pick this year, the Vikings may look to trade back in the first round to gain more draft assets. In his latest mock draft, Newsweek’s Bryce Lazenby suggests a trade scenario where the Buffalo Bills move up to pick 24 to select Texas wide receiver Matthew Golden, while the Vikings slide down to pick 30 and draft East Carolina cornerback Shavon Revel.
“With so few picks, a trade down feels almost inevitable,” Lazenby writes. “In this mock, the Vikings land Revel, a talented corner who could immediately contribute in the secondary. Despite an injury setback in 2024, he has star potential when healthy.”
Revel played just three games last season due to a torn ACL but made a strong impression early, recording two interceptions, two pass deflections, and even returning one pick for a touchdown. He skipped the NFL Combine but participated in East Carolina’s pro day, where he completed 12 reps on the bench press. However, he did not run drills during the event.
The Vikings have a history of targeting corners in the first round, selecting four since 2010. Among them, Xavier Rhodes stands out as the only one to make a Pro Bowl, doing so three times and earning First-Team All-Pro honors in 2017.
Currently, Byron Murphy Jr. is penciled in as the top corner, but the depth behind him is uncertain, with Isaiah Rodgers and Jeff Okudah looking to bounce back. Adding a young talent like Revel could give Minnesota much-needed depth—and possibly their next star in the secondary.
