Braves Stay Hot, Rockies Sink Deeper in Historic Slump
Matt Olson recorded a season-best three hits, Michael Harris II drove in three runs, and the Atlanta Braves rolled past the Rockies 8-2 on Tuesday night — handing Colorado its 16th loss in the last 17 games.
Austin Riley and Nick Allen each added two RBIs, while Eli White delivered a double and a triple to help Atlanta notch its ninth win in 11 games after a rocky 5-13 start.
The Rockies’ latest defeat marked their eighth straight and capped a disastrous 1-16 stretch — the worst 17-game run in franchise history. Now 4-25, they’ve joined just two other teams since 1901 (the 2003 Tigers and 1988 Orioles) to drop 25 of their first 29 games.
AJ Smith-Shawver (1-2), recalled earlier in the day, earned the win for Atlanta, allowing two earned runs over 5 1/3 innings before exiting after taking a line drive off his pitching elbow. He threw 59 pitches, 46 for strikes.
Germán Márquez (0-5) was tagged for 11 hits and seven earned runs in 5 1/3 innings. Since a scoreless debut, he’s given up 25 earned runs in 15 2/3 innings, pushing his ERA to a staggering 9.82.
Key Moment: Nick Allen’s two-out, two-run single capped a three-run fourth that put Atlanta up 5-1.
Up Next: Rookie Chase Dollander (1-3, 7.91 ERA) starts for Colorado against Atlanta’s Chris Sale (1-2, 5.40 ERA) in Wednesday’s series finale.
