The New York Giants and Cleveland Browns are two teams that may look to select a quarterback in the 2025 NFL draft, both sitting near the top of the first round with the No. 3 and No. 2 picks, respectively. Miami quarterback Cam Ward, a potential top pick, could be unavailable for either team, as the Tennessee Titans—holding the No. 1 overall pick—have reportedly shown interest in him, conducting a private workout following his pro day, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter. With Ward likely off the board, both teams may pivot and take another quarterback. One possible option for both teams is Colorado’s Shedeur Sanders, or they could choose to trade for an additional first-round pick to select Ole Miss QB Jaxson Dart, who is emerging as a top contender.
In a recent episode of “The Insiders” on Thursday, NFL Media’s Ian Rapoport reported that the Browns and Giants have been spending considerable time with Jaxson Dart ahead of his pro day on Friday. While both teams are interested in Dart, Cleveland has expressed a particular interest in Sanders, who threw for 37 touchdowns in 13 starts during the 2024 season. The Browns are expected to host a private workout with Sanders, furthering their evaluation of him. Despite this, keeping Dart in their sights remains a strategic move for both the Browns and Giants as they continue to assess their quarterback options.
The Giants, who signed quarterbacks Russell Wilson and Jameis Winston in the offseason, have struggled with quarterback play recently, as neither threw for more than 2,500 yards in the 2024 season. This raises questions about the long-term stability of the position in New York, making it plausible that they could take Dart, who had an impressive 2024 season at Ole Miss, completing 69.3% of his passes for 4,279 yards and 29 touchdowns. With the Giants still looking for a franchise quarterback, Dart could present a potential solution, whether through their original pick or by acquiring another first-round pick.
On the other hand, the Browns face a dire situation with their starting quarterback, Deshaun Watson, who suffered a torn Achilles for the second time in January and is expected to miss most of the 2025 season. To fill the gap, Cleveland made a trade for QB Kenny Pickett from the Philadelphia Eagles on March 10. While Pickett has shown promise in his three seasons with the Eagles and Pittsburgh Steelers, throwing 15 touchdowns and 14 interceptions, the Browns are still in need of a reliable quarterback for the future. This makes their potential interest in a young prospect like Dart all the more relevant.
Athlon Sports’ Luke Easterling recently updated his quarterback rankings, placing Jaxson Dart as the No. 3 QB prospect in the 2025 class, behind Sanders and Ward. Dart’s stellar performance in 2024, combined with his high passing completion rate and impressive touchdown numbers, makes him one of the most sought-after quarterbacks in the draft. As both the Browns and Giants continue to monitor the quarterback landscape, it seems clear that Dart will remain a key figure in their plans for the future, whether they draft him or pursue other options.
