JUST-IN: Cody Bellinger’s 6-RBI Heroics EPIC Grand Slam BREAK Mets’ Spirits in Jaw-Dropping Subway Series Finish!

Cody Bellinger blasted a grand slam to cap a six-run eighth inning, driving in six runs total and powering the New York Yankees to an 8-2 win over the New York Mets on Sunday night.

The go-ahead run came when Mets first baseman Pete Alonso committed a throwing error that let Jasson Domínguez score. Paul Goldschmidt followed with an RBI single off Ryne Stanek (1-4), and Bellinger crushed his ninth career grand slam off lefty Génesis Cabrera.

In a showdown between division leaders, Max Fried delivered six solid innings as the Yankees claimed two out of three games in the first Subway Series of the season. The city rivals will face off again July 4–6 at Citi Field.

Juan Soto, returning to the Bronx after signing a record-breaking 15-year, \$765 million deal with the Mets, was met with boos all weekend. He went 0-for-4 with two strikeouts on Sunday, finishing the series just 1-for-10 with four walks.

The Yankees jumped to a 2-0 lead in the first inning thanks to Bellinger’s two-run double, which deflected off a diving Alonso’s glove following an error by third baseman Mark Vientos.

Jeff McNeil tied the game for the Mets. He knocked in a run with a two-out single in the second, then drew a walk to start the fifth and later scored on a wild pitch that got away from Yankees catcher Austin Wells.

Both starters—Fried for the Yankees and David Peterson for the Mets—allowed three hits over six innings, leaving the game knotted at 2-2 when they departed.

A sellout crowd of 48,028, the largest of the season at Yankee Stadium, was on hand, including notable attendees like former MLB star Albert Pujols, Giants quarterback Russell Wilson, and Knicks center Karl-Anthony Towns.
