The Minnesota Vikings are heading into the 2025 season with plenty of uncertainty surrounding rookie quarterback J.J. McCarthy, but questions extend beyond just the signal-caller — especially when it comes to wide receiver Jordan Addison.
One of the biggest concerns is Addison’s looming off-field legal issue, which is set to unfold just before training camp. The third-year receiver is scheduled for a July 15 court date related to a DUI citation from last summer, and could face a three-game suspension, per Alec Lewis of The Athletic. The Vikings are aware of the situation and have been preparing for this possibility, which puts added pressure on the team’s ground game and offensive depth.
In Addison’s potential absence, the Vikings will lean more heavily on Justin Jefferson and T.J. Hockenson as the focal points of the passing attack. Jalen Nailor is expected to see an expanded role, while rookie Tai Felton could also get a significant opportunity to step up.
Since being drafted in the first round in 2023, Addison has made an immediate impact as the team’s No. 2 wideout, racking up 133 catches, 1,786 yards, and 19 touchdowns across 32 games (29 starts) in his first two seasons.
Minnesota opens the season on the road against the Chicago Bears, followed by home matchups against the Atlanta Falcons and Cincinnati Bengals — all potentially playoff-caliber opponents. If Addison is sidelined due to suspension, his absence could be a major blow to the Vikings’ early-season success.
