JUST-IN; Future QB Dilemma: “Vikings Warned Re-Signing Sam Darnold Could Be A Financial Disaster – 5 Reasons Why…

The future of Sam Darnold with the Minnesota Vikings has become a divisive issue. In a December 31 article, Bleacher Report’s Zach Buckley predicted that Darnold will re-sign with the team, partly due to uncertainty surrounding his breakout season.

Buckley’s view is supported by a report from The Athletic’s Dianna Russini on December 28, which confirmed that the Vikings are open to bringing Darnold back and that he wants to return.

However, ESPN’s Dan Graziano takes a different view, suggesting that the Vikings won’t keep Darnold. Graziano raised concerns about the high cost of retaining him, pointing out that with the 10th pick in the upcoming draft, the team may look to develop a new quarterback.

He also noted that Darnold had his best season yet, ranking 13th in QBR, but questioned whether it was worth paying him a salary in the $45-50 million range, considering the team already has a promising rookie on the roster.

While the Vikings could franchise tag Darnold, Graziano argued that it might not be wise to commit significant money to him. He compared the situation to gambling, saying that after hitting a big win, you don’t risk it all again.

Graziano emphasized that paying top dollar for Darnold wouldn’t align with the Vikings’ long-term strategy, especially with their plans to capitalize on a rookie quarterback’s contract.

Unless Darnold is willing to accept a more team-friendly deal, Graziano believes it would be irresponsible for the Vikings to bring him back.
