The New York Giants’ offensive line could look very different by the time the 2025 season kicks off. While free agency didn’t bring major changes—outside of a few depth additions—one notable draft pick could spark a heated competition along the right side of the line.
Fifth-round pick Marcus Mbow could shake things up at right guard
Training camp always brings drama, and this year, the Giants may have a brewing battle on their hands. With their fifth-round pick in the 2025 NFL Draft, New York added Purdue lineman Marcus Mbow, a versatile 22-year-old who played both right tackle and right guard in college. His arrival sets the stage for a tightly contested position battle this summer.

Three players eye one starting job
Mbow will compete with Greg Van Roten and Evan Neal for the starting right guard role. Van Roten started there last season, but at 34 years old, he’s widely seen as a temporary solution rather than a long-term fixture. Neal, a former seventh overall pick, was originally drafted to be the Giants’ right tackle of the future—but after multiple underwhelming seasons, he could be moved inside to guard in a last attempt to revive his career.
Though Mbow is expected to begin at tackle, Giants GM Joe Schoen has already acknowledged that the rookie may slide inside to guard thanks to his versatility.
A summer battle will decide the winner
This competition likely won’t be settled until training camp and preseason action unfold. Whoever steps up and shows the most consistency will earn the right to start at right guard when the regular season begins.
