New York Giants fans are all too familiar with the sting of injuries. From Daniel Jones and Saquon Barkley to Odell Beckham Jr. and Victor Cruz, few key players have been spared over the years.
While the team’s first major injury of the offseason isn’t season-ending—like Andrew Thomas’ Lisfranc issue—or a threat to award hopes, as with Dexter Lawrence’s elbow—it’s a reminder that football’s physical toll is never far behind.
According to ESPN’s Jordan Raanan, the Giants have lost newly signed edge rusher Victor Dimukeje to a torn pectoral, an injury that typically sidelines players for four to six months post-surgery. Raanan noted that Dimukeje could miss part of the upcoming season as a result.
Signed early in free agency by GM Joe Schoen to a one-year, \$1.3 million deal, Dimukeje showed potential as a pass rusher despite limited production—his four career sacks all came in 2023. He was expected to contribute depth at outside linebacker, a position already stretched in 2024 due to injuries to Kayvon Thibodeaux and Azeez Ojulari.
Whether Dimukeje will miss regular-season games isn’t yet certain; he may start the year on the Physically Unable to Perform (PUP) list.
The Giants are still well-stocked at edge rusher, with stars like Brian Burns and Thibodeaux leading the way, and rookie Abdul Carter adding further strength. Though Dimukeje was a potential fit to replace Ojulari, it’s likely that his reps would have gone to Chauncey Golston, who brings greater versatility and a larger contract.
Even as the fifth edge rusher on the depth chart, Dimukeje could still make an impact once healthy. The Giants can take comfort in the fact that his injury came early enough for a potential mid-season return.
