JUST-IN: Giants Rookies & Cam Skattebo Are Headbutting Their Way to the Top — Here’s Why You Should Care

The New York Giants struck gold in the 2024 NFL Draft, landing five projected starters, most notably dynamic wide receiver Malik Nabers. As a first-round pick, Nabers is expected to become a centerpiece in the offense and a key figure in rookie quarterback Jaxson Dart’s development.

Looking ahead to 2025, this year’s rookie class doesn’t appear to offer as many instant-impact starters. Jaxson Dart will spend time learning behind veteran quarterback Russell Wilson, while fourth-round running back Cam Skattebo starts off as a backup to second-year rusher Tyrone Tracy Jr. Still, both Dart and Skattebo have the potential to grow into significant long-term contributors. Dart, in particular, is seen as the eventual face of the franchise.

In the meantime, the rookies are bonding in an unconventional way — by headbutting.

During an appearance on Up & Adams, Skattebo shared a story that perfectly captures their budding chemistry.

“First day we met, he looked at me and said, ‘I want to headbutt you,’” Skattebo recalled. “Yesterday, during an interview, he just looked at me and said, ‘Skat,’ and we headbutted right there.”

It’s a fitting ritual for Skattebo, a compact and powerful runner known for his physical, aggressive style. His downhill running could earn him a role in short-yardage and goal-line situations, possibly cutting into Tracy’s workload. His blocking ability also makes him a viable option on passing downs — something the Giants would rather rely on Skattebo for than risk Dart taking hits.

Skattebo also praised Dart’s intensity, noting that the rookie quarterback brings an edge that resonates with the locker room.

“He’s the king of headbutts. He’s a little menace. Not everyone sees it, but we do,” Skattebo said. “He’s almost as crazy as me.”

While Dart may not start right away, he’s expected to see significant practice reps alongside Skattebo, and a late-season appearance isn’t out of the question. More than just talent, this rookie class is about reshaping the team’s identity — and Dart seems to embody the grit the Giants have been looking for.
