JUST-IN: Giants Set To Shock the NFL by Cutting Ties With Proven Key Defensive Piece — Here’s the Surprising Team Eyeing Him

As the 2025 NFL season approaches, the New York Giants are banking on a fierce pass rush to anchor their defense. Last season, they showed promise with former first-round pick Kayvon Thibodeaux teaming up with trade acquisition Brian Burns. This offseason, the Giants doubled down on strengthening the defensive front, selecting standout Penn State pass rusher Abdul Carter in the first round of the draft.

With another top-tier talent added to the mix, speculation is building about Thibodeaux’s future in New York. According to Bleacher Report’s Brad Gagnon, the Giants could consider moving on from Thibodeaux by the trade deadline, especially if there’s a pressing need elsewhere on the roster. Gagnon even suggests that the Detroit Lions might emerge as a potential landing spot if they fail to land Trey Hendrickson—calling Thibodeaux a potential “consolation prize.”

The Giants are clearly not in rebuild mode despite missing the 2024 playoffs. In fact, they made a bold move by signing veteran quarterback Russell Wilson, hoping his leadership can give the team a much-needed spark. Gagnon notes that if Wilson finds a resurgence—and with promising rookie Malik Nabers emerging—New York may be in the playoff hunt, making a strategic trade of Thibodeaux to address other needs a practical move.

“Given the team’s other weaknesses,” Gagnon writes, “it would make sense to trade Thibodeaux for help elsewhere—especially if they’re still in contention as the deadline nears.”
