If pitching prospect Carlos Lagrange wasn’t already on the New York Yankees’ radar, he certainly is now. Lagrange made an impressive showing in Saturday’s Spring Breakout game against the Baltimore Orioles, consistently hitting 100-101 mph over four innings. The 21-year-old allowed two runs (one earned) and struck out two in a 5-4 loss. “This was a huge opportunity for me,” Lagrange said. “It meant a lot.”
Lagrange retired 12 of the last 13 batters he faced, with his final pitch clocking in at 101 mph. “It was a chance to prove to myself and everyone else that I’m a good pitcher and that I can throw strikes,” he told reporters, according to the New York Post.
The Yankees signed the 6-foot-7, 195-pound Lagrange for just $10,000 in 2022, and he’s now considered one of the top-20 prospects in their farm system. Over three minor-league seasons, Lagrange has posted a 4.70 ERA, topping out at Single-A Tampa last year.

However, he is expected to begin 2025 with the Tarpons, where he’ll need to improve his control to make it to the majors. Despite a strong 2.08 ERA in five games in the Arizona Fall League, Lagrange walked 15 batters in 8.2 innings. On Saturday, however, he didn’t walk a single hitter.
While Lagrange is unlikely to make his major-league debut this year, he’s positioning himself for a non-roster invite to spring training next year. If he keeps up his strong performances, he might soon find himself with a travel bag ready for the Bronx.
