South Carolina secured a major boost for its defensive line heading into next season with the addition of Bowling Green transfer Davonte Miles, who officially signed with the Gamecocks on Saturday morning. At 6-foot-5 and 280 pounds, the Michigan native will be bringing his talents to the SEC in 2025, adding much-needed depth to South Carolina’s defensive front. During the 2024 season, Miles accumulated 11 total tackles, including 2 solo stops, for the Falcons. Throughout his college career, he has recorded 26 tackles (10 solo) but has yet to notch a sack.
This signing is a significant one for head coach Shane Beamer and the Gamecocks, especially after missing out on two of the top defensive tackles available in the transfer portal. While Miles has yet to fully showcase his potential, he’s expected to be a key part of South Carolina’s defensive plans moving forward. With two years of eligibility remaining, Miles will look to grow and develop into a more impactful player during his time in Columbia.
Although Miles is considered a work in progress in terms of his overall development, his addition provides South Carolina with much-needed depth on the defensive line, an area where the Gamecocks were lacking. With his size and physicality, Miles has the potential to evolve into a stronger presence in the middle of the defensive front, something the team desperately needs heading into the upcoming season.
Miles played in 10 games for Bowling Green in 2024, but South Carolina is hoping that his time with the Gamecocks will allow him to take the next step in his career. The Gamecocks are looking to continue their momentum from a successful 9-4 season, which included impressive wins over rivals Clemson and a near-upset against Alabama. With the addition of Miles, South Carolina hopes to fortify its defense as it prepares for the challenges of the 2025 SEC season.
