This offseason, there was plenty of speculation that other NFL teams would pursue Minnesota Vikings defensive coordinator Brian Flores for a head coaching job. Meanwhile, many fans are hoping he’ll stay with the Vikings to continue guiding their defense.
Flores did receive some interest and initial interview requests, but with second-round interviews and hires already happening, things have gone strangely quiet regarding his future with the Vikings.
Brian Flores Returning to the Vikings in 2025 Seems Likely
Flores hasn’t served as a head coach since his final season with the Miami Dolphins in 2021. Over three seasons with Miami, he posted a 24-25 record but failed to make the playoffs.
The Chicago Bears have hired Detroit Lions offensive coordinator Ben Johnson as their head coach, while the New England Patriots have brought in Mike Vrabel. The Dallas Cowboys are conducting second interviews, but Flores isn’t part of their list.
That leaves only the New York Jets, Jacksonville Jaguars, New Orleans Saints, and Las Vegas Raiders as potential openings for Flores to return to a head coaching role. However, according to Adam Schefter, the door seems closed for him in Florida.
The Jacksonville Jaguars are wrapping up their second round of head coach interviews, and Flores isn’t among their candidates. Instead, they’re reportedly focused on Daniel Graham, Robert Saleh, and Liam Cohen.

Flores’ time in Miami was marked by some controversy, but nothing similar has surfaced during his tenure with Kevin O’Connell and the Vikings. While it’s intriguing that other teams aren’t pursuing him more aggressively, the Vikings should be relieved, as the likelihood of Flores staying with the team increases with each new hire and interview this offseason.
Flores has previously stated that he would leave Minnesota only for the “right opportunity” as a head coach. With the remaining openings in New York, New Orleans, and Las Vegas, the chances of one of these being the right fit appear slim.
While surprises can always happen, it seems increasingly likely that Brian Flores will be back on the sidelines at U.S. Bank Stadium in 2025.
