Notre Dame and Clemson are set to intensify their rivalry with a newly announced 12-year home-and-home football series, scheduled annually from 2027 through 2038. This agreement, announced on Tuesday, ensures that the two college football powerhouses will face each other every season during this period.
The Tigers will host games in odd-numbered years, while the Fighting Irish will host in even-numbered years. Previously, the teams were scheduled to meet in 2027, 2028, 2031, 2034, and 2037; this new arrangement adds additional matchups to the calendar.
Clemson currently leads the all-time series 5-3, with several notable games between the two programs. In the 2018 Cotton Bowl Classic, a College Football Playoff semifinal, Clemson dominated Notre Dame 30–3, advancing to the national championship game. However, Notre Dame secured a significant victory in 2020, defeating the top-ranked Tigers 47–40 in double overtime during the regular season.
Clemson later avenged this loss by winning the ACC Championship Game against the Irish that same season. In 2022, Notre Dame delivered another blow to Clemson’s aspirations with a decisive 35–14 win at home.
Both programs have consistently been among the nation’s elite. Clemson has achieved nine or more wins in 14 consecutive seasons, while Notre Dame has secured nine or more wins in eight straight seasons. Both teams reached the expanded College Football Playoff field last year, with Notre Dame advancing to the national championship game before falling to Ohio State. Clemson’s sustained success and Notre Dame’s recent resurgence set the stage for what promises to be a compelling and competitive series.
This long-term scheduling agreement reflects a commitment to preserving traditional rivalries in college football amidst widespread conference realignment. By prioritizing meaningful matchups, such as this series with Clemson, Notre Dame aims to maintain the integrity and excitement of college football’s competitive landscape.
