This is a big, but well-earned step forward for such a young talent. Didier Fuentes first drew attention last year with a 2.74 ERA and 98 strikeouts over 75.2 innings at Low-A Augusta, and he started his 2025 season strong by striking out seven batters in just three innings during the Braves’ Spring Breakout game.
His fastball has gained some velocity since last season, now sitting comfortably in the mid-90s—especially impressive for a 19-year-old still filling out his frame. He also throws a sharp slider and is developing a promising splitter or changeup.
His stats in High-A Rome might not look impressive at first glance—he has a 5.54 ERA through three starts—but opponents are only batting .186 against him, and his strikeout-to-walk ratio remains excellent.
Those underlying numbers are critical to teams like the Braves when evaluating if a young pitcher is ready to advance. Currently ranked as the Braves’ No. 11 prospect by MLB.com, Fuentes could find himself climbing into the top five by the end of the season.
