Vladimir Guerrero Jr. is set to be the top free agent in 2025, and a bold trade proposal suggests the New York Yankees could acquire him from the Toronto Blue Jays, a division rival.
MLB analyst Jacob Mountz of FanSided has predicted a massive four-player trade that would bring Guerrero Jr. to the Yankees to strengthen their offense and fill a key role at either first base or third base. In return, the Blue Jays would receive three promising young prospects to kick-start a potential rebuild.
Guerrero Jr. is entering the final year of his contract with Toronto after a standout 2024 season where he posted a .323 batting average with 30 home runs and 103 RBIs. The four-time All-Star and two-time Silver Slugger winner is regarded as one of the best hitters in baseball.
The Yankees’ trade package would include top prospect Jones, an outfielder drafted 25th overall in 2022 who is expected to debut soon, alongside Warren, a right-handed pitcher who made his MLB debut last season and could provide rotation depth, and Pereira, an experienced MLB outfielder ready to battle for a roster spot in 2025.
Mountz argues that the Yankees should make this move to increase their World Series chances, as Guerrero Jr. would be an instant offensive powerhouse.
While New York hopes their new acquisitions—Cody Bellinger and Paul Goldschmidt—will help fill the void left by Juan Soto’s departure, adding Guerrero Jr. would further elevate their lineup. Moutz believes that the proposed trade makes sense for both teams: the Yankees gain a star hitter to ramp up their offense, while Toronto gets younger and builds for the future with high-upside prospects.
