JUST-IN: Yankees Star Jasson Domínguez Hurt Stealing Base — Could This Thumb Injury Doom Rookie’s Breakout Season?

Yankees outfielder Jasson Domínguez injured his left thumb while stealing a base Sunday night and had to leave during New York’s 7-3 win over the Los Angeles Dodgers.

Closer Luke Weaver was sidelined by a hamstring issue and didn’t pitch at all.

Domínguez reached base on a walk and successfully stole second with a headfirst slide in the fifth inning. He later scored on DJ LeMahieu’s single but was replaced by a pinch hitter in the sixth inning.

“He just couldn’t really swing,” Yankees manager Aaron Boone said. “It was serious enough for him to come out.”

The 22-year-old rookie left fielder is set to undergo further tests Monday in New York.

Boone had planned to bring in Weaver to close out the game with a 7-3 lead. However, after warming up and starting to stretch, Weaver felt discomfort in the middle of his hamstring, forcing a last-minute change.

“We’re hoping it’s nothing too serious,” Boone added.

Tim Hill finished the game by retiring the side in the ninth, helping the Yankees avoid being swept in a series for the first time this season.
