The Minnesota Vikings are continuing their trend of having the youngest starting quarterback in the NFC North for 2025, with J.J. McCarthy at the helm. However, one of McCarthy’s predecessors, former Vikings QB Case Keenum, made news on Thursday.
Keenum, who spent the 2024 season with the Houston Texans, was placed on injured reserve due to a foot injury and did not see any action. This offseason, he signed with the Chicago Bears as a free agent.
“Veteran QB Case Keenum has agreed to a one-year deal worth up to $3 million with the Chicago Bears, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter on April 3. Keenum will now mentor Caleb Williams in Chicago, just as he did for CJ Stroud in Houston,” Schefter tweeted.
In 2024, Keenum played a crucial role for the Texans, leading them to an important overtime victory over the Tennessee Titans when Stroud was sidelined by a concussion. Keenum, a former standout at the University of Houston, set an NCAA record by throwing nine touchdown passes in a game against Rice and finished his college career with 19,217 yards, 155 touchdowns, and 46 interceptions. As a native of Brownwood, Texas, Keenum has been a source of inspiration to his teammates, providing valuable mentorship throughout his career.
Keenum has also played for the Buffalo Bills, Cleveland Browns, Denver Broncos, Los Angeles/St. Louis Rams, and Washington Commanders. He went undrafted out of Houston in 2012.
Over the course of his career, Keenum has accumulated 15,175 passing yards, 79 touchdowns, and 51 interceptions, with a 62.3% completion rate and a 30-36 record as a starter. With $54.8 million in career earnings, he ranks among the highest-paid undrafted players in NFL history, according to Front Office Sports.
Keenum is set to face the Vikings twice in 2025 as part of the Bears’ quarterback room, which also includes Williams and 2023 undrafted free agent Tyson Bagent. However, he is not expected to challenge Bagent for the starting role.
