JUSTIN; How the T.J. Hockenson Trade Backfired on the Lions — And Why It’s a Disaster

July 2024 was a challenging period for the Minnesota Vikings. In consecutive weekends, the team experienced the heartbreaking loss of rookie cornerback Khyree Jackson and the arrest of wide receiver Jordan Addison, both incidents involving motor vehicles.

Addison’s legal proceedings regarding his two Driving Under the Influence (DUI) charges have been dragging on, with multiple pre-trial meetings taking place over the last few months.

Jordan Addison’s Pre-Trial Conference

On Thursday, Addison attended another pre-trial meeting, this one labeled as a pretrial conference.

It’s noteworthy that Addison’s case is still in the pre-trial phase. As Kevin Seifert pointed out, Addison pleaded guilty back in December, yet cases like his tend to take time to resolve. California’s legal process can be lengthy, and it’s possible this case won’t even go to trial.

Addison faces DUI charges under Vehicle Code 23152(a) in California, which not only puts his driver’s license at risk of suspension or revocation, but also exposes him to criminal charges in the state. Handling this situation demands prompt legal action.

In California, most DUIs are classified as misdemeanors, following the standard court process for such offenses. The process involves three main steps: arraignment, pretrial conference, and trial. However, many DUI cases never make it to trial, as they are often dismissed before then, or a plea deal is struck for a less severe charge.

Despite the possibility of harsh penalties or imprisonment, with the right legal representation, there’s potential for a favorable outcome. California law also gives judges the discretion to offer alternative sentences, such as enrolling in a DUI deterrent program instead of serving jail time, providing some relief in this stressful situation.

The Vikings are currently in a holding pattern, waiting to see what happens with Addison’s case, as a suspension remains a possibility.
