The Green Bay Packers have added linebacker Jamin Davis to their practice squad after he was released by the Commanders last week. Davis, who was drafted by Washington in 2021, has also played as a defensive end.
He’ll be joining a talented linebacker corps, working alongside athletes like Quay Walker and Edgerrin Cooper while adapting to a new defense under position coach Anthony Campanile and defensive coordinator Jeff Hafley. Davis played college football at the University of Kentucky and was utilized as a defensive end in 2024 before his release.
Davis is an impressive athlete, known for his agility and length, making him a valuable asset in coverage. He excels at disrupting passing lanes in zone coverage and can effectively turn and run in man situations. His ability to read and react in the run game is also noteworthy. Over his career, he has recorded 282 tackles and seven sacks in 50 games, starting 36 of those in his first three seasons, though he was released after five games this season.
He has played nearly 2,300 defensive snaps but has limited experience on special teams, with just 49 snaps. Between 2022 and 2023, he made 82 stops and generated 21 pressures as a blitzer while missing only 13 tackles.
Although he weighs in at 234 pounds, Davis demonstrated elite athleticism, achieving impressive results in the vertical leap (42 inches), broad jump (11 feet), 4.47 seconds in the 40-yard dash, and 1.53 seconds in the 10-yard split. His Relative Athletic Score of 9.93 out of 10 ranks him among the most athletic linebackers ever, contributing to his rise up draft boards. The Packers have secured a fast linebacker capable of covering and tackling effectively, significantly enhancing their linebacker unit. This move could help propel their defense into the top five in the NFL.
Taking a chance on Davis seems worthwhile for Green Bay, as there’s always room for more speedy, athletic linebackers. It will be interesting to see how the coaching staff can maximize his potential within the Packers’ system.
